Bedding Bedspreads and Comforter Differences

By: LaZinnia Manley

Bedding Bedspreads and Comforters are often terms used interchangeably by a lot of people. There are differences in the two and in this article we will discuss some of those differences.

One of the first differences I would point out is that generally speaking there is a difference in the size of a bedding bedspread and a comforter.  Either of these products can be purchased for different size beds. Single bed, double bed, queen size or king size bed for example. This is not the size difference I am referring to. Comforters usually require a bed skirt to be used. Not only is the mattress covered but the bed frame is also covered by the comforter set.  Bedding Bedspreads may or may not cover the entire bed frame.

Comforters usually are manufactured in a quilted type material that may be used for warmth is so desired. Some are quilted and even reversible allowing either side to be used as the top side. Bedding bedspreads are normally not used as a cover for warmth and are not quilted. Bedding bedspreads quite often are produced with an open type weave and are not normally used for cover for warmth. Bedding bedspreads are usually used only for their beauty and enhance room décor.

Comforter sets are manufactured from many materials, styles and colors. Some of the common ones are matelasse, cotton, chenille, damask, batik and satin. They come in most any color and color combination you can think of. Bedding Bedspreads are also manufactured from the same type materials and come in a large range of colors.

Bedding Bedspreads are an older style of bed covering and comforters are a newer style of bed covering. Neither is superior to the other in form or function. Choose which style you prefer to enhance your home décor. Some people use both styles in different bedrooms of the house.
